So sounds like HAXage and Cac are coming down for a few days here in august, so i'm sure there will be more than a few matches of SFA played over the timespan. If anyone has any suggestions or queries about stages and stuff for us to test, now is the time, you have until MONDAY the 26th because well actually HAXage might check the forum but i'll probably be too caught up in the moment or forget so GO

We finished a couple quick tournies (sp?) yesterday, we had a 2v2 tourney and a really quick FFA with another awesome finals, so hopefully this will give SOME inscentive to get the August tourney uploaded (in all seriousnes I think he's pretty close to getting them done).

No spoilers yet, you'll have to wait a year until HAXage uploads them! ha!

its ok people finally discovered to just shoot at falco's feet and this is pretty useless now Sad Haven't had a chance to actually watch anything other than the short highlights because anything more might explode my phone

I don't even remember what tournament this was, was it the doubles one?

Got a free afternoon, so I'm watching through all the recently uploaded games, and I'll post thoughts/analysis as I go.

Match 1010 - Quite a significant lead, perhaps a sign that the faster characters are indeed better on Simp1 than slower ones. I'd however argue that Krys would be a great revenge killer on this map, but that's still debatable with her less-than-ideal speed.

Match 1020 - So my ideas about controlling the high ground on Simp3 were correct! I never imagined it to be as tough as it appears to breach the top level, but I still think there's an argument to be made for a Peppy or Krystal to be a valuable asset in forcing the top.

Match 1030 - Here's a map where faster characters are, in my opinion, very necessary - Simp2 is large and a Falco can really control a game here, as shown in the video. Even the Demon Sniper isn't enough for a comeback.

Match 1040 - Damn, this game was good.

Match 1050 - Perhaps the biggest part of this match was the picks. When 2 Peppys and 2 Slippys are picked, it's going to be a slow and tactical game, and it certainly was. Both teams displayed good teamwork and co-ordination, although the Slippys in Leon and Akp more so, but what I noticed was a strange focus on indoor fighting. My analysis of the map consisted of a lot of focus on the outdoor sections of the map, specifically the tight walkways and their restriction of character movements. The character picks instantly clicked as sensible for this kind of hazardous map, yet the hazards never seemed to have much of an effect, despite the two suicides early into the game. The indoor fighting is perhaps ideal for Boxer players, maybe explaining my confusion - I prefer playing Techers to allow unparalleled movement around the map to juke and prod players. In this game's case, I think map control was foregone for teamplay. Maybe it's a 2v2 thing, I dunno, I just think the focus on indoor fighting wasn't entirely necessary.

Match 1060 - Akp and Leon yet again showing their strong teamwork, but that comeback at the end was impressive. However, I think this really does go to show how useless Krystal is on her first life, and that one life can be a significant factor.

Match 1170 - Can Cac and Straty finally end the dominating streak of Leon and Akp? Nope. What a kill though.

Match 1180 - Hooray, a Falco on Zoness! It's also the way I like to see him played - collecting what he can before running around and using what he has to wreck opponents, and this he does. As a result, however, it does see a nice funny increase in suicides. It seems his playstyle also forces more careful play from the Slippys here where they clump together and stay put, as Falco clearly outspeeds (and in some areas, outplays) them, leading to an overall good game.

Match 1190 - This game only made me dream of what I want in a sequel/mod for Assault. I thought of 5v5 matches with multiple new characters, like Kat, General Pepper, Panther and Bill all scrapping it out on Titania. One time where that map might be good!

Match 11[10]0 - This naming system confuses me. Otherwise, I think this match is a good example of why Krystal is (in my opinion) one of the weaker characters. Both Ganon and Whaleu pick her on Katina but have to sacrifice 2 points in order to get to their desired strength. As a result of these 2 points, HAXage and STG just snowball through them. This is why I believe Krystal needs to be an earlygame fighter - rushing the enemy and forcing them to counter-attack or flee, leading to either a nice amount of damage before Krystal loses her first point or an opportunity to grab some items. If Krystal rushes items first, she'll end up dying too quickly and losing her items, wasting time and a point.

Match 12[11]0 - What happened to Fox? Did he get a ban or something this time, cause he's not been in any games!

Match 12[12]0 - Goddamn Titania?! What were you thinking setting the grand finals here?! Also, hey look Fox appeared. What I was truly surprised by with that match was the lack of abuse of the summit of Pride Rock. The only real thing that could hit them up there is a Missile. But oh well, still a good match and GGWP to Hax and STG.

Match 1011 - Free For All on Zoness, woo! FFA likes to throw all standard analysis material right out the window, so I won't be looking too in depth at these, but Krystal dominated the earlygame because she did what I suggested above - forcing the fight. Also, "there is a whole subsection of the metagame dedicated to barrier timing"? WHY DIDN'T YOU GUYS TELL ME

Match 1021 - FFA is chaos on small maps like Simp1 and Zoness, and I love it. I'm not normally a fan of Simp1 but this was a good match... even if Akp on the Falco absolutely wrecked it.

Match 1031 - Finally, a Sarg match. I love this map too much for it to be ignored up to here, which makes me wonder if there'll be an ApCity game.

Match 1041 - I didn't expect a Peppy to lead on Simp2 FFA, but I guess anything really can happen on FFA.

Match 1051 - Woohoo for the ApCity! I like this map more than I should, as it's a little imbalanced with those spawns, but it's a unique style and forces interesting strategies. Nobody else seems to like it though?

Overall, a good entertaining afternoon. I look forward to more in the future!

yeah STG it was the doubles

TLF just fyi those last 5 games (tourney 1--1) are all from a tourney we played in Vancouver in May of this year, they're not part of the Aug2013 games

re. zoness indoor fighting - i think it just boils down to the fact that the center building is the safest place to be. someone hangs around there, someone else shoots at them, one teammate comes in to help and then suddenly you're all there... 2v2 on zoness is definitely way different than 1v1

i think what STG and i did wrong in that game was to support each other too late; you can see a bunch of examples where i get there just as he dies and Leon's outside doing who knows what. there's a section where he comes to save me and instead of immediately supporting him i run upstairs to check for items/weapons... then when it was tied i was just careless and got fashed in the final seconds. actually i was pretty careless the whole game but what really sunk it was being too late to support him the whole time.

we also don't communicate much in that game compared to our other games where we're constantly telling each other what we're doing and what we're picking up - something i noticed not a lot of other teams did in other games (unless i just can't hear them since they were sitting right next to each other or something).

I almost always play Falc on zoness. Sometimes even against Slp.

Zoness is a great map in that it allows for multiple different playstyles, all equally strong. You could go Slippy or Peppy and play the slow-paced thoughtful game, or run an aggressive Fox or Falco and outspeed your opponents with the risk of falling off the stage. Perhaps you could play the long-ranged defensive Krystal, standing at the top of the lifts and using missiles or homing launchers to zone(ss) enemies away to turtle out an advantage for as much time as possible. Then again, a Peppy with a Booster pack is going to wreck through those barriers...

wanted to point out that this is pretty difficult to do when you're that far away from someone

also re. barrier timing yeah i dunno i thought it was kinda evident  bounce basically barriering is better than dying always but you want to maximize its use so it's just about risk/reward... either you pop it for defense (i.e. if you're going to die in the next hit) or you blow it at full health in order to punch through someone's defenses and take a quick point

What a tease. I'm sure you're still working on them, but the videos stopped just short of the semis, OT, and finals for the FFA. So hype'd to watch them again.
