| I know this was present at the last forum, but I thought that since it was quite interesting that it could be opened up to any new members.
So, I was playing a 1v1 on Simp 3 with my brother. We were fighting on the top floor, and he was using his signature sniper. (Based on vids I've seen I would say he could give Akp a run for his money) I was cloaked and knew I was only a few seconds from getting killed. I decided to jump down to blue. As I jumped, two things happened. 1: I accidentally tapped 'B' 2: I got sniped. I died of course, but I fell to the blue level with a barrier on! While initially we were all skeptical, (even I doubted my eyes) but when STG (I think) described the same thing happening to him, we accepted it as true.

You must've been sniped right before the barrier came up. I think there is around 0.5- 1 frame between the time you press B and the time the barrier comes up. I've killed my cousin on Kat this way before. I hit him right before his barrier came up, but instead of him dying with it on in kind of faded out. Also he was running away from me which caused him to slide a little, this made me realize that characters have a little forward momentum left after being shot while running and some upward momentum after jumping. So whether you jumped or ran off of the top floor, you slightly increased the chances of him hitting you before the barrier came up. Lastly your brother is a beast for sniping that quickly and accurately.

Lastly your brother is a beast for sniping that quickly and accurately. Interesting. So this happened to you as well. Now that I think about it, I guess I did notice some momentum held after death, but I didn't pay mind. And yes. my brother is a beast at sniping. If he's holed up in a place with predictable entrances with a demon sniper (for barriers of course) and can be in zoom before you rush, you're gone. You need nades or missiles to attack indirectly. When we were doing a Simp 3 sniper match (no barriers I believe) he scored ~8 points before he stopped camping and we returned to each jumping to a different floor for close-combat sniper fights (which I'm pretty good at)

| i think my earlier theory on this was that bars are just a spherical shell that goes up around you when you hit B, and that if something is actually inside that radius (but still travelling) when you pop, it'll still hit you? i dunno, this could be tested though with frame advance (which i really haven't taken out in a while) | |

I believe your inside the radius theory is correct because when i fired and my cousin's barrier came up, the shot was in the barrier with him befrore it hit him.

I believe your inside the radius theory is correct because when i fired and my cousin's barrier came up, the shot was in the barrier with him befrore it hit him. This is very possible, but I would like to bring up the fact that detonating a grenade inside your own barrier does no damage to yourself.

I have a suggestion/theory for this that can be easily tested. My theory is that the barrier has a fade time, or a few frames of animation where the barrier is not considered physical. This can be tested by having someone shooting a machine gun at a player with a barrier. Turn the barrier on, and see if the blocking starts instantly or after a short time.

| Tested my theory - didn't work. Therefore we can assume that the barrier does indeed appear instantly. | |

| on reflection, i seem to remember testing this with GCNrd and seeing that a barrier comes out in one frame, although it's been a while... | |

| Maybe it's possible to barrier after dying. | |

| I think what we determined is that for an extremly short period after dying, you are still able to put up a barrier. Lazy coding, I guess. | |

| We've noticed some movement after you die. There's a chance that coding stops after controller input velocity (not falling, etc.) stops. It could also just be lazy coding. | |

| I think that damage isn't completly instantaneous, so when you like, get hit by a RCB or something, there's a split second delay where the game registers the hit to take away health, kind of like how some ucb's seem to kill even though they don't show up (ghost ucb's anyone?)
I could be totally wrong.

| That sounds viable. Maybe I got hit and then activated a barrier before damage registered | |

| After thinking about it for a little while, its probably not the cause though, because i've seen it happen 5-6 times, and the timing window has to be miniscule, although the said people could have just been unlucky | |

| Really? You've seen it 5-6 times? I've only seen it once. Whatever the circumstance is, it'd have to be rare | |

| It's actually instantaneous with the sniper and demon sniper. If not then it's very close to it. | |
